South Asian Cultural Competency Training for The Solaz in Los Cabos

Nirjary Desai founder and CEO of KIS(cubed) collaborated with Del Cabo Events to host a South Asian Weddings & Events 101 Training Seminar. Attendees were offered two days of fully immersive training in South Asian culture and how professionals in the events industry can appropriately approach cultural events and traditions.

Based in Baja California, Mexico, Del Cabo Events creates spectacular events for high-profile companies around the world. Its destination event planners use unique decor, vendors and distinctive locations in Cabo and Punta de Mita to offer a one-of-a-kind experience.

Objectives/Challenges 

The seminar was meant to immerse participants in South Asian culture, cuisine and celebrations and create wider knowledge of these topics. Nirjary’s main objective was to increase knowledge of South Asian culture in the events industry and bring attention to the importance that special events can hold within different communities.

Solutions/Achievements

At the conclusion of the program, participants were impressed with Nirjary and the insight she had to offer. Born in Zambia, raised in South Carolina and educated in London, Desai’s polycultural upbringing instilled a passion for global travel, socially conscious businesses, and inclusive community building. “My life has always been a battle between my eastern culture versus my western lifestyle. Those experiences make me want to advocate for a more socially inclusive world.” 

Multiple attendees cited Desai’s speaking abilities and personality as a highlight of the program. They reported leaving the event with a greater understanding of South Asian holidays, customs, traditions as well as the best practices to utilize when working on events in this vein. With the success of this program, Nirjary plans to continue working to create a precedent for inclusion and growth within the industry and fill a need in her field.
